Frequently asked questions about video call therapy…

If you have never completed video call therapy before, you probably have questions about what it is and how it works. In this section, we answer some of the most frequently asked questions about this treatment.

What is video therapy?

Video therapy is a type of online counselling where you explore your emotions and address your concerns one-on-one with a therapist through live video.

Accessible anywhere through any device, including smartphones, computers and laptops, this treatment combines the personal, face-to-face element of in-person therapy with the convenience of remote counselling.

In addition to treating a wide variety of mental health problems, video call therapy is also available for our NHS Couple Therapy for Depression.

How does video therapy work?

The way video therapy works is simple – you connect with your therapist online through easy-to-use video conferencing software.

Here, you talk with your counsellor about how you feel in a safe online space. Through these structured sessions, you gain a better understanding of the challenges you face and discover effective techniques to better manage your wellbeing.

What are the benefits of video therapy?

Video call therapy is an effective route to feeling better, as it is both personal and convenient, providing the same face-to-face connection you would expect from an in-person session, all while being accessible from practically anywhere.

Beyond comfort and capability, remote video counselling is highly convenient. Whether you live far from one of our North East or South East Essex centres, or are someone with limited mobility, you can always find the support you need through mental health video therapy.

How do I access video therapy?

At Therapy For You, we require you to use either AccuRx or Microsoft Teams, two free and secure video conferencing platforms.

Once your appointment is booked, you will then receive an email or text with a link to your chosen platform ahead of time, allowing you to easily connect and speak to your counsellor online.

How do I prepare for a video therapy session?

Although video therapy is a quick and convenient route to therapy for many, we ask that you approach each session with the same consideration as you would an in-person appointment. This means:

  • Finding a comfortable, private space to talk where you won’t be disturbed
  • Positioning your device somewhere with a good internet connection
  • Silencing other devices and distractions to keep your session focused
  • Turning on lights and angling your camera so you are clearly visible
  • Keeping any notes you want to talk about beside you

What if video call therapy is not right for me?

Everyone’s path to recovery is different. If our video call therapy sessions do not provide the outcome you are seeking or meet your needs, we provide a range of alternative talking therapies in Essex for our patients:
