Bibliotherapy, also called a Book Prescription Scheme, is a form of reading therapy. By reading several of the recommended books, you can learn more about your problem, gain an understanding of why you feel the way you do and find out about the changes you can make to improve your emotional wellbeing.

How does it work?

Therapy For You will recommend a list of books that could help with your particular problem. Once you have read one or a number of the books, a therapist will discuss what you have read and give you some activities to complete that will act on the advice provided in the book. The therapist will stay in touch to discuss future books and your progress in general for as long as you need.

Bibliotherapy can help you:

  • Deal with depression or low mood
  • Deal with panic attacks and anxiety issues
  • Deal with anger problems
  • Deal with sleep issues
  • Cope with loss
  • Grow in confidence and self-belief
  • Manage OCD
  • Manage eating problems
  • Overcome phobias
  • Understand yourself and your feelings better
